Chapter 6. Searching for Fonts

Fontmatrix provides several ways to refine your selection while looking for the best fit for a job. Use the generic metadata or PANOSE search first to go from thousands to tens, then use a comparison function to pick the final font.

Generic metadata fields search

The upper part of the Browse Fonts sidebar lets you build queries to filter fonts by metadata or tags.

By default Fontmatrix searches all fields. Click the field button to narrow the search to a specific field (Copyright, Designer, etc.), type your text and press Enter.

For complex queries, toggle the And and Not switches. The combined query is shown at the bottom — for example [deja][!italic] matches all non-italic DejaVu fonts.

Click reset to clear the query.
